Chevrolet's Traverse is getting a major overhaul for the 2024 model year. The redesigned midsize SUV looks more rugged than the last, with trucklike exterior styling that can be further enhanced with a newly available Z71 off-road package. Additional highlights of the 2024 Traverse include a more powerful engine, a longer list of standard and available equipment, and an upgraded interior that features a 17.7-inch infotainment screen.

Styling and Trim Levels

In terms of front-end design, the 2024 Traverse borrows heavily from the Tahoe and Suburban. Note its oversized grille and full-width trim bar bearing the Chevy bow tie.

The Z71 model looks even tougher, wearing a revised front fascia with an improved approach angle and red tow hooks, 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a widened track, lifted suspension with upgraded dampers, and a front skid plate. Other perks of this trim include an all-wheel-drive system tuned for off-roading, a Z71-specific Terrain drive mode, hill-descent control, a standard tow package, and second-row captain's chairs.

Care more about on-road performance than off-road trekking? The Chevrolet Traverse RS is the way to go. It comes with 22-inch gloss-black wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, black exterior trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and red interior accents. What's more, Chevy has swathed the first two rows in leather, giving the RS a bit of luxury.

Budget shoppers will want to look at the entry-level LS and step-up LT trims. The former is available exclusively as an eight-seater with a second-row bench, whereas the latter can be ordered in either seven- or eight-seat configuration.

Interior Features and Tech

All 2024 Traverse models ship with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beams. Buyers also receive adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, evasive-steering assist, traffic-sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera. Super Cruise, which allows for hands-free highway driving under certain circumstances, costs extra.

Regardless of trim level, a 17.7-inch touchscreen sits atop the dash for all your infotainment needs, and an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster keeps the driver apprised of vital metrics. You likely don't need wireless phone charging, given the Traverse's six standard USB ports, but it's available. So is Wi-Fi connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, heating for the steering wheel and first two rows, and a liftgate that opens automatically if the driver stands behind the vehicle with the key fob for several seconds.

Performance

For 2024, the Traverse ditches the old naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 in favor of a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four. Despite its smaller displacement, the 2.5-liter produces 315 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, both of which top the V6's figures. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox on offer, and buyers can select either front- or all-wheel drive.

Chevrolet says the 2024 model can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, matching the rating of the outgoing model.

Pricing and Availability

Chevrolet has not announced pricing for the 2024 Traverse. That information will be released closer to the SUV's market debut, which is scheduled for early 2024.
