Several automakers have nixed sedans from their lineups in favor of SUVs or crossovers, but Honda's Accord and Civic are still on the menu. The smaller 2022 Honda Civic can be had as a sedan or a hatchback, while the costlier 2022 Honda Accord sedan is bigger and offers more features. Both cars are relatively affordable, comfortable, and efficient.

The base 2022 Honda Civic comes with a standard 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), with a six-speed manual option for the Hatchback and paddle-shifters in the mid-level Sport and top Touring trims. The Civic sedan costs around $30,000 in its top trim, with the Hatchback model coming in around $31,000.

The 2022 Honda Accord costs around $28,000 with its base 192-hp turbocharged 1.5 four-cylinder and CVT. On the Sport and Touring trims, a 252-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 212-hp hybrid powertrain with a CVT is also available. The hybrid commands a roughly $1,000 premium in most trims, but range-topping Hybrid Touring trim is around $900 cheaper than the top-of-the-line, non-hybrid Touring model, which costs around $39,000.

The Civic comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a four-speaker sound system, cloth seats, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Touring trim adds a 9.0-inch touchscreen, leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, and a wireless charging pad.

Every Accord has an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility (with wireless connectivity in the upper trims), and there's broader availability of leather and heated seats across the Accord's lineup, compared with the Civic. A wireless charging pad and 10-speaker sound system are available, and an Accord-only Wi-Fi hotspot is standard in the Touring trim.

The Accord has 106 cu-ft of passenger space, 7 cu-ft more than the Civic (hybrid Accords have 4 cu-ft more interior space than the Civic). The Accord has a 17 cu-ft trunk, compared with the Civic's 15 cu-ft trunk, but the Civic Hatchback claims 25 cu-ft of storage space.

The EPA estimates a 2022 Honda Civic with the base powertrain will earn 35 mpg. The Civic's turbocharged engine rates an EPA-estimated 36 mpg. The Hatchback loses a few mpg to the sedan with each powertrain combination. The manual transmission paired with the turbocharged engine returns an EPA-estimated 31 mpg and 29 mpg when paired with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

The 2022 Honda Accord's base powertrain will earn 33 mpg. The upgraded 2.0-liter engine is rated at 26 mpg. The hybrid is the most efficient of all at 47 mpg, according to the EPA.
