The Cadillac ELR was a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle available as a two-door luxury coupe with four-occupant seating. Cadillac sold it for the 2014 and 2016 model years. Based on the Chevrolet Volt, the Cadillac ELR offered 37 to 40 miles of electric driving range before a range-extending gasoline engine turned on to continue propelling the car. With the gas engine running, the ELR averaged 30 mpg to 33 mpg in combined driving. Cadillac priced the ELR high, and it did not sell well. So, the automaker paused production, skipping the 2015 model year to regroup. The ELR returned for 2016 with a lower price, more performance, revised ride and handling traits, and a new Sport trim level. In addition, the 2016 Cadillac ELR received new infotainment and safety features. Unfortunately, the updates did not make the ELR appealing to Cadillac's customers, so it disappeared from the lineup.
