The tiny Mazda CX-3 debuted in 2016 with dramatic bodywork, quality interior materials, and enjoyable driving dynamics. A modest 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine made 146 horsepower and drove the front or all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Mazda offered the CX-3 in Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim levels. Unfortunately, the rear seat proved inhospitable to adults. In addition, cargo space ranged from just 10.1 cu-ft behind the back seat to 44.5 cu-ft with it folded down. A maximum of 6.2 inches of ground clearance also limited the CX-3's usefulness for off-roading. The larger Mazda CX-30 arrived in 2020, and at that time the company stripped the CX-3 lineup down to a single Sport trim. The CX-3 exited the Mazda lineup after the 2021 model year.
