Car Overview
Mercedes-Benz SLK
In the 1990s, in the wake of the Mazda Miata roadster's success, Mercedes decided to use that small, lightweight, two-seat recipe for more upscale but entry-level convertibles: the SLK-Class. When the SLK went on sale in the United States in 1998, it had a supercharged four-cylinder engine and a power retractable hard top instead of a soft convertible roof. Over three generations, it added power, performance, luxury, and technology. Mercedes debuted the third-generation SLK in 2012, offering turbocharged four-cylinder, V6, and V8 engines. When the automaker made mid-cycle modifications to the car in 2017, it also changed the name to SLC-Class. However, after a 22-year run, the SLK/SLC went out of production four years later.
