This is such a cool car, better then my MB C240

08/23/2020

I sold my 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, 77kmile, wanted to stay in the hybrid models. This A3 Etron rides better and is more comfortable then the other PIHB I test drove.. I bought one with all options, it is fun to drive , I do not drive many long distance miles, put $15 gas in 2 months .. I like this car..

Still loving it after 18 months

02/01/2020

The quality and craftsmanship in this car still impresses me... and I've now owned it for 18 months. It's quiet, especially at lower speeds. When the gasoline engine kicks in, it's barely noticeable. I've found passengers don't notice at all. Road noise at highway speeds is typical of other cars. My MPG has ranged from a max of 174.3 MPG, with a 1,458 mile range to a low of 51.5 MPG. My overall average has been 68 MPG. That said, when converting to MPGe (using the government formulas), even the high of 174 only brought in a 74.2 MPGe rating once you consider the BTU equivalency for the amount of electricity it used. I'm not sure how they got an 83 MPGe listed on the sticker. Regardless, it PERFORMS WELL on both the miles per gallon front, and in acceleration and handling. Torque is immediate and at full strength from the electric motors. None of that gasoline engine lag due to being at the wrong RPM when you first need power, and drowning the engine with too much fuel before it can do something with it. As a result, sometimes you'll find the front wheel drive may spin the tires if you give it too much juice off the line. The car is feature rich... although some of it is a little quirky on implementation; making me feel that other more main stream makers (e.g. Ford) consider human factors better. For example, the Radio volume and mute button are on the center console adjacent to the passenger seat. My passenger, when I have one, tends to set her purse beside her and the center console... which really means part of the purse sets on top of the console... and often unintentionally mutes the sound system. Another example is the headlights. Most manufactures display a green headlight icon on the dash indicating the lights are on. Audi A3 just lights up the indicators on the headlight knob which view is blocked by the steering wheel... so, you're not quite sure if the headlights are on or not! Still, the quirks are minor in comparison to the quality and craftsmanship. It feels like finer living... as everything feels good to the touch, solid, and works as expected. It also has a lot of "that's cool" features, such as being able to preheat or pre-cool your car using a cellphone app so that it's ready to go at the time you set. The size of this car and it's features is really good for city driving, and errands. I use it as a second car. For long trips, the size of this car and it's plug-in feature isn't ideal... causing me to use another car.

Great PHEV

05/09/2024

5 years in, and zero issues (knock on wood). ability to plug-in and use gas when needed has been fantastic. Most of the commute is all electric, but when needed I can use gas for long trips. I typically get 16miles on all electric. On top of that the average MPG when using gas is 40+mpg. The car is comfortable, high-end luxury that you'd expect from Audi. Quality through and through. Car has get-up-and-go too, making it fun to drive. Trunk is tight when you have 4 passengers (no golf clubs). Things I wish this car had: AWD, carplay, 30+miles electric, regen braking in elec mode. Amazing PHEV for the cost today, plus the $4k from IRA makes this car about the best value out there.
