If you still love the boxer rumble, this is it
Tuesday, October 13, 2020
It’s an iconic sports car if you are ok to see in real time the fuel gauge needle goes down every time you accelerate (no exaggeration here, the updated bigger injectors and revised air intake do make difference even in dated EJ257). Engine is torquey in all gears above 2000 rpm. The car is a beast, although kinda feels faster than it really is. Absolutely the best and most sophisticated AWD in class, period. To really feel the turbo kick in the pants, gotta wind it all the way past 4500 rpm, just to realize that it’s a bit too much (and too late) when you really need it. Steering is so informative that you can read the pavement. Brembo brakes are beefy and sweet looking but the rotors wear out very fast, even without crazy driving. Shifter is crisp but needs some get used to but eventually is very satisfying. Clutch effort is normal. Almost no TMIC heatsoak. The car feels lazy when driven normally. The screaming wing attracts mostly unnecessary attention. Worth buying if you’re a car collector or into Subie heavy modding.

This car is great and I plan on driving it until it wont let me. I am a WRX slappy going all the way back to my 2002. I drove it for all 240k and it still had the original clutch and turbo when I sold it. I'm 53 yrs old and can say WRX's are the best cars i have ever owned. If in a winter area I recommend snow tires. Pro's: Fun, Reliable, 30+MPG Highway; Roomy for a small car; just looks cool; Holds Value. Cons: Steering Wheel Volume button is touchy and can easily skip to the next chapter or song; Air Conditioning seems to struggle when over 95.

so glad I bought this car

I bought this car just over a year ago and I've put 28000 miles on it so far. First thing, I did when I bought it was buy a new headunit and speakers for the doors and dashboard. Subaru has made good improvements with this model's radio, but a Sygav Android headunit and kicker speakers gave me what I needed. This car has been fun, dependable and in all honest, cost effective. I did have it tuned with a better intake and exhaust to make 330 WHP, but I'm still averaging about 29 MPG on 93 octane. Yeah, I'd rather use 87, but I knew this going into the purchase. The interior has held up well. Only issue is a rub spot on the steering wheel from my wedding ring. Seats got swapped out for red leather and suede STI seats, but the stock cloth ones were still good. Oil change every 5K, new snow tires for this season, brakes...that's all it's needed. I did run a few custom wires from the trunk to the dashboard and the experience was easy. every thing came off and went on with ease and in a manner you'd expect them to. Had it now for over a year and I still smile when I hear that turbo open it's wastegate while doing a WOT pull onto a highway.
